It connects our mind and body
(which can easily become disconnected by our fast-paced lives) Mindfulness incorporates sensory awareness of breath and body. Observing our breath, body & thoughts allows space to recognize feelings/stressors we may have been ignoring, but that have been impacting our daily life (i.e stress headaches, gut issues etc.). |
It helps us become less reactive
Many times we hold onto negative feelings/beliefs, or react/act in ways we later regret. By labelling feelings (i.e. anger), and noticing how it feels in our body, we see how it affects us. Mindfulness can guide us to recognize and acknowledge thoughts/feelings moving through us, and remain grounded to flow with the experience, rather than becoming consumed by it. |
It builds our capacity to regulate our emotions and moods (self-regulation).
Focusing on immediate experiences allows for recognition of mental states. The more we are aware of our own mental and emotional states with acceptance and non-judgement, the easier it is to tame them. |
Research confirms mindfulness encourages a sense of ease and well-being
Being present and aware of what is happening within us and around us, without expectation or agenda allows us to adapt to the present moment experience without judgement through openness, curiosity, and acceptance. This leads to insight, empathy, compassion and healthy emotions. |
It’s a practice/skill we can take with us into any situation
The breath grounds us to the present moment which guides us in finding ease in chaos. Our breath goes everywhere we go! |
“Letting go”
Mindfulness guides us in learning to notice healthy and unhealthy emotions, thoughts, and habits in order to let go of what doesn’t serve us. |
